Powering Sustainable Industry Through Renewable Energy
Project Helios is Perdaman Chemicals & Fertilisers’ renewable energy initiative developed to support the operations of Project Ceres in Karratha, Western Australia. Designed as an integrated solar power station, the project will deliver clean electricity directly to the Project Ceres facility through a combination of ground-mounted and rooftop solar photovoltaic installations. By embedding renewable energy into one of Australia’s most significant industrial developments, Project Helios represents an important step towards building a more sustainable and energy-efficient future for large-scale manufacturing.
Located within the Burrup Strategic Industrial Area, Project Helios is being developed alongside Project Ceres to provide reliable renewable power across multiple operational facilities. The project includes approximately 30MW of solar generation capacity, with installations spanning Site F, Site C and key port infrastructure. Once operational, the solar power station will work in conjunction with the facility’s broader power network, helping diversify energy sources while supporting stable and efficient plant operations through locally generated renewable electricity.
Beyond supplying renewable energy, Project Helios reflects Perdaman’s long-term commitment to decarbonisation, innovation and responsible industrial growth. The project forms part of a broader vision to reduce operational emissions and explore future opportunities in renewable hydrogen production. Through investments in clean energy infrastructure, Project Helios will contribute to Australia’s transition towards a lower-carbon economy while reinforcing Western Australia’s position as a leading destination for sustainable industrial and energy developments.

Engineered for Excellence
Technical Capability
The project combines approximately 30 MW of solar generation capacity (25MW ground mounted and 5MW roof mounted) through a mix of ground-mounted and rooftop photovoltaic installations located across Site F, Site C and associated port infrastructure. Connected directly to the Project Ceres power network through multiple connection points, the system has been designed to deliver renewable electricity where it is needed most, supporting day-to-day operations and reducing dependence on conventional energy sources.
Engineered for Pilbara Conditions
Project Helios has been designed specifically for the demanding environmental conditions of the Pilbara region, including the cyclonic weather events that can affect the Karratha area. The solar power station is being engineered in accordance with relevant Australian Standards for wind loading and structural performance, with mounting systems, foundations and associated infrastructure designed to withstand extreme wind conditions.
Site-specific geotechnical investigations, structural analysis and detailed engineering assessments are being incorporated into the project to ensure long-term durability, operational reliability and safe performance in one of Australia’s most challenging industrial environments.
Stakeholders
Project Helios is supported by a network of stakeholders who share a commitment to advancing renewable energy and sustainable industrial development. From engineering and construction partners to government agencies, industry bodies and the broader Project Ceres delivery team, their collaboration helps drive innovation, energy resilience and long-term environmental outcomes.
