Our Journey

Our story began in 2000, when visionary entrepreneur Vikas Rambal arrived in Western Australia with years of experience in chemical engineering and global project development. With a strong foundation built through early work in India’s refinery and fertiliser industries, Mr. Rambal set out to unlock the potential of Australia’s natural gas by creating sustainable, value-added downstream projects. In 2006, he established Perdaman Industries, now Perdaman Chemicals and Fertilisers, laying the groundwork for what would become a diversified global enterprise focused on innovation, sustainability, and national resilience.

In 2017, Perdaman Chemicals and Fertilisers launched its flagship initiative—Project Ceres—a world-scale fertiliser plant in Karratha set to produce 2.3 million tonnes of urea annually. With construction commencing in 2023, this USD $4.5 billion project has been recognised as a Major and State Significant Project, poised to secure Australia’s fertiliser independence and contribute to global food security. The journey expanded in 2024 with Project Vesta, a workforce housing initiative supporting both industry and community needs. Today, guided by values of excellence, environmental responsibility, and inclusive growth, Perdaman Chemicals & Fertilisers continues to pioneer transformative projects that drive Australia’s agricultural, industrial, and economic future.

Vikas Rambal

Chairman, Perdaman

Perdaman’s Founding Chairman and Managing Director Vikas Rambal has more than 30 years’ experience in business and a proven track record in delivering world-class businesses. Born in Delhi, India, Mr Rambal qualified as a chemical engineer specialising in petrochemicals, spending his formative years at Bharat Petroleum (formerly Shell).

In 2000, Mr Rambal moved to Western Australia with plans to use natural gas for downstream industry, including the manufacture of Ammonia for the International Fertiliser market. Mr. Rambal was the driving force of the project (Burrup Fertiliser, now known as Yara Fertiliser) from instigation to completion as Managing Director and a former shareholder. After Burrup’s successful commissioning, he established Perdaman Chemicals & Fertilisers, formerly known as Northwest Chemical and Fertilisers, with the intention of developing the second world-scale fertiliser plant in Western Australia.

After realising the better and more promising prospects of urea fertiliser, particularly in Karratha, Western Australia; Mr Rambal began establishing his new Project Ceres Urea and Ammonia Plant. By 2017, Mr Rambal obtained the status of Major Project from the Federal Government and Project of State Significance from the Western Australian Government for Project Ceres Urea Plant.

As Perdaman’s chairman, Mr Rambal’s fundamental vision has always been creating a better tomorrow by delivering excellence, fostering innovation, and championing sustainability.
